TRANSLATING
ACADEMIC
Syriac Literature, by Rubens Duval
I translated La Littérature Syriaque, a 400-page scholarly study of some of the earliest Christian literature, into English. The original book, written in French by the linguist Rubens Duval and published in 1899, had never before been translated. Published in 2013 by Gorgias Press, the translation provides anglophone readers with what remains one of the best – and most readable – introductions to literature written in the ancient Middle Eastern language Syriac. |
JOURNALISTIC
|
Starting in 2019, I regularly translate articles from English into French for the Global Investigative Journalism Network, the largest network of nonprofit investigative newsrooms. The stories translated provide reporting advice as well as news on the state of investigative journalism around the world. |
LITERARY
I have translated dozens of poems between French and English for The Five One Review, the online literary review I co-founded in 2014, and have since co-edited, with my brother.
Walt Whitman, Kahlil Gibran, Rudyard Kipling, Jean de La Fontaine, Guillaume Apollinaire and Victor Hugo are among those whose work I have translated. |
